Overview -- Setting the Context |
|
. In the name of making a profit, most major industries intentionally produce products which contain built-in obsolescence and/or weak points designed to fail or become obsolete in a specified time frame. As a result, our society wastes vast amount of its production capacity, creates mountains of trash, and needlessly costs consumers billions of dollars for product repairs or replacements. **es6 Green-Earth-Computers.com is about to demonstrate a major reversal of this wasteful process using two, relatively simple, easy-to-implement, yet previously ignored techniques. The first, involves our unique business structure and the second is refined version of modular product production . **msc2 ¹ Our unique business structure and the modular design of our products has huge financial and environmental advantages. Both leave much of your money in your pocket and both are environmentally friendly. Present computer systems have everything thrown into a single box or inside the computer monitor, all designed with no intention of being able to upgrade individual components. In sharp contrast, Green-Earth-Computers are being designed with each component as a separate plug-in unit that can be replaced at any time while leaving the rest of the system intact and fully functional. In the long run, this will save customers thousands of dollars and by reducing waste, it will also eliminate mountains of trash. This page focuses on the huge financial saving and the equally impressive reduction in computer waste products that can be had by creating computer products in a modular format where only the essential components are replaced during a system upgrade. . |

. Present-Day Computers: With the present-day, physical, computer systems, many of the critical components are permanently attached to and inside of the main computer box (Piggy Bank) and is some cases inside the same container that houses the monitor. (Big Sky) If something goes wrong with any of these components, the entire computer is off to either the trash bin or the repair shop. In either case, you must stop work, take time for repairs or replacement, and in the process, open your wallet and dish out a considerable amount of your hard-earned money. The Green-Earth Computer System: With the Green-Earth-Computers, if a component becomes defective, you simply unplug it and plug in a temporary or permanent replacement and go back to work. If it's part of the core of your system such as the physical hard drive (Hardy), you simply unplug the old Hardy and plug in a new Hardy, copy your entire software system from one of your two automatic Data Backup Systems (Pocket Packs) and go back to work. . |

. Lost Data: How many times have you experienced a computer crash and lost hours, days, or even weeks worth of work. With With the Green-Earth-Computers, your entire software system is also set up on your two automatic Data Backup Systems (Pocket Packs). If your working system crashes, everything (including you programs) are safely stored on both of your two automatic Data Backup Systems (Pocket Packs). Emergencies: In case of fire, flood, tornado, earth quake, and the like, you can make an emergency exit and take all your computer content with you simply by unplugging your two automatic Data Backup Systems (Pocket Packs). Each Pocket Pack can be move to its own new place of safety. When you replace your destroyed Green-Earth-Computer, simply plug one of your Pocket Packs into your new Green-Earth-Computer and retrieve your data. . |

. A Dairy Industry Role Model: We are assuming that human will respond to our computer system in a much more positive way when the components are referred to as a family of individual members, each of which has its own personal name. We base this assumption on the dairy industry example: Cows produce five percent more milk when acknowledge by name instead of only by number. Based on the above-mentioned role model, for ease of communication, and to give life and spirit to Green-Earth-Computers, we have chosen to name our computer system and its component parts using non-technical names. Here are some examples:
The Main Players : Piggy Bank . . . . . . . The Main Computer Box Big Sky . . . . . . . . . . Monitor / TV setHandsome . . . . . . . Keyboard Micey (Miss M) . . . Mouse Pocket Pack . . . . . . . In side the Piggy Bank:Much of the savings from our modular formatting will result from our ability to easily remove and replace, or add to Cooky, Hardy, and Ramby, (defined below) while leaving the other pieces of our computer system intact and functional. Big Momma . . . . . . . . . Mother Board -- This is a panel/frame/form consisting of female receptors into which the computer's internal components get plugged. Big Momma is also the trusted, secure home base where all the out-and-about family members (the peripherals such as your keyboard (Handsome) and your mouse ( Micey) connect to the computer system. Cooky . . . . . . . . . . . Data Processor -- This is the kitchen of the computer where the cook does her thing and where the production work takes place. One of the important factors here is how fast Cooky does her job. Because technology is constantly evolving, regularly replacing Cooky is one of the critical components of a computer upgrade. The memory Brothers: Hardy . . . . . . . . . . . Hard Drive -- This is your data warehouse --- It's the major storage area for your data. With the constant addition of more data and bigger files, bigger is better. Again technology is advancing rapidly, making bigger warehouses in smaller physical units. Regularly expanding or replacing Hardy is another critical components of a computer upgrade.Ramby . . . . . . . . . . . "RAM" -- Random Access Memory -- This is your computer's day-to-day working space. It's an internal desktop that Cooky uses for temporary data storage and for date manipulation. As a customer, you chose the size of your Ramby based upon your needs or desires. . |

Monitors -- Big Sky |
|
. A little Television History: The television broadcasters send out visual and auditory messages in an electronic form. You and I receive those messages with our TV (television) sets. The television broadcast system is in the closing phase (2009) of moving from sending out a single analog signal per broadcaster to sending out multiple-channel, digital signals per broadcaster. The new signal offers, not only more channels per broadcaster, the pictures are much clearer (twice the number of lines per frame as the old TV system). Traditional, old fashion television sets are those old, big, heavy black boxes that look more like a front loading washing machine than like the new television sets which are, essentially, electronic picture frames. The old sets are capable of receiving only analog signals.
. The new television system uses digital signals only. Inside every new television set is an electronic unit that receives the new digital television signals. We refer to this new digital television signal receiver unit as IZenEars.
. IZenEars
. . . . . . . . . . . "ATSC"
receiver -- "ATSC" tuner
-- ATSC = Advanced
Television System Committee) HDTV tuner --
HDTV = High
Definition Television (twice the number of
lines per frame as the old TV
system) Inside the standard, flat screen television sets, IZenEars sees and hears those signals. IZenEars then translates the electronic sounds and pictures and sends them to us through visual pictures on the TV screen and audio sound through the speakers. Inside Big Sky: (Inside the computer monitor)During the initial phase of developing the Green-Earth-Computer system's Big Sky, (the computer monitor) will play host to IZenEars (the digital television signal receiver). . For years, we've heard talk about the marriage of computers and television sets. The technology is well developed and fully functional, so why is the computer industry so resistant to consummating this union? MONEY! They are more interested in selling new monitors and throwing the old ones away when a consumer upgrades his/her computer system. Fortunately, the television industry has stepped in and produced products that have the capacity to replace the single-use, computer monitor with a dual purpose unit that combines the computer monitor with a television set (IZenEars). The goal is to use a high quality television set as our computer monitor. Although the initial price is higher than a regular monitor, if you can afford the up-front cost, you can have an excellent HDTV and a computer monitor combined. If you later decide to discard your computer system, you still have a high-quality television set. When you up upgrade your computer system, there is no need to buy another monitor. . At the moment, IZenEars (the digital television signal receiver) is trapped in a special unit called a television set or in a few cases, trapped inside a combination computer monitor and TV tuner. The E-Green System (Green-Earth-Computer system) is about to let IZenEars out of prison, so that you can have any monitor you want and IZenEars will instruct your monitor to give you the sights and sounds that today, only traditional television sets can give you. . |

Data Backup System "Pocket Pack" |
|
. This is your data, insurance system. It's a feature and a benefit that present computer systems are not offering. We're calling our unit the Pocket Pack. It's an independent, external hard drive (a Hardy) that plugs into the main computer box ( Piggy Bank). It's designed to hold an independent copy of all your important computer content. Your Green-Earth-Computer will have a program designed to automatically back up data to Pocket Pack from whatever internal hard drive files (Hardy files) you designate. You simply designate which files are to copied. Your system does the rest automatically and does so as often as you desire or require. The main computer box, which we are calling the Piggy Bank, will have outlets to accommodate two of these units at the same time. In an emergency, you can unplug the Pocket Pack, put it in your pocket and leave with all of your computer data safe and intact. It will also be designed so that when you travel, you can take your data and your special programs with you and plug your Pocket Pack into any other Green-Earth-Computer and work on that system the same way you function on your own Green-Earth-Computer. .

Connecting Cords, Plugs, and Adapters |
|
. The Hookers -- The Connection Makers: Busty, Hubby, and Linzy (line z) . . . . Connecting all the family members together. Busty . . . . . . . . USB-powered hub -- This is technical language for the female plug-in sockets in the computer industry's inter-device, electrical connection system. As an analogy, it's the computer equivalent of a the wall socket in your home where you plug in an electrical device such as a lamp, a toaster, or a TV set. (A hub may have one or several sockets.)It's part of the computer's electrical energy transfer system which connects Easy Riders (the peripherals such as your keyboard (Handsome) and your mouse (Micey) connect to the computer mother boar d Big Momma).USB-powered hub USB = Universal Serial Bus. (A bus is not the thing some kids ride to school in.) In computer lingo, a bus is an electrical transfer device. hub = A place where things (in this case wires) come together. powered = This appears to be a word thrown in to add a little more confusion. One can assume it relates to the electrical power, but in searching the Internet, I've yet to find any specific definition or description of "-powered" or why it's part of the name, USB-powered hub. Hubby . . . . . . . . For the purpose of clarity, we are going to label the male side of the USB-powered hub connection system as Hubby. Linzy's Movers . . Connecting Cords (cords will be numbered and/or color coded)Linzy # 1 -- Big Daddy (External Power Source - The Alternating Current from your home's electrical system) to Piggy Bank (The Main Computer Box) Linzy # 2 -- Big Daddy to Big Sky (Monitor / TV set)Linzy # 3 -- Big Daddy to Pr Baby (Printer)Linzy # 4 -- Piggy Bank (The Main Computer Box to Big SkyLinzy # 5 -- Piggy Bank to Handsome (Keyboard) Linzy # 6 -- Handsome to Micey (Mouse)Linzy # 7 -- Piggy Bank to Pr Baby Linzy # 8 -- Piggy Bank to Easy Rider __?___ (Digital Camera)Linzy # 9 -- Piggy Bank to Easy Rider __?___ (Scanner)Linzy # 10 - Piggy Bank to Easy Rider __?___ (Et cetera)
The Intimate Connections . . . . . . . . . Plugs and Their Receptors -- Each plug and its matching receptor will be labeled as a compatible pair. For example, Norma and Norman are your everyday husband and wife, and obviously, they fit together. From tradition nursery rhymes there's the unmistakable duo known as Jack and Jill. From our grandparent's generation, there's the duo we learned in first grade when we read stories about Dick n' Jane, and of course, Peter and Paul are welcome part of our new and enlightened computer family.
Going Both Ways . . . . . . . . . Adapters -- Connecting one plug-in system to another. Adaptors will obviously be needed to allow old cords to attach to the newer and more up-to-date plugs and adaptors. As an example, the female ends of millions of computer power cords have a plug that is incompatible with normal extension cords. When a user buys a new computer, the computer seller sell the buyer a new cord that he/she doesn't need. The buyer then has two perfectly good power cords. The old power cord no longer has any practical use or value to the buyer and so it ends up in the trash. Green-Earth-Computers is about to demonstrate how to end this unnecessary waste. We will have a extension-cord-compatible power cord receptor built into our main computer box (Piggy Bank). Our power cords will be compatible with standard extension cords which will expand their future utility way beyond that of only a computer power cord. We will also have adaptors that will allow present-day computer power cords to plug into our computers. You will not need to buy new power cords when you purchase a Green-Earth-Computer. This is just one small example of saving money and reducing trash production. (Reference: Alternatives - Power Cords) . |

"Change" Versus "That's What Always Was" |
|
. For those of us used to the old, traditional, technical jargon, the new names may seem strange, but for the younger generation who will grow up with this new system, "Hardy" and "Ramby" and the other computer terms will a normal to them as "Hard Drive" and "RAM" is to us computer elders.Thirty years ago, "ram" was a male goat, "mouse" was Mickey and Minnie, and keyboard was the place to hang your house and car keys. A monitor was the person at school who watched over us when we took a test, and the words "Video," "Mother Board," and "Hard Drive" were simply not part of our language. Cheer up. Change is the only thing that stays the same. . |

If you are like the rest of us, there are times in a conversation when you nod your head as if you heard or understood what someone just said to you when, in reality, you have no idea what's going on, but don't want to appear to be the only idiot in the conversation. Then there are also those of us who were daydreaming and simply missed the message. And there are the younger students of life who've not yet heard the message for the first time. As a result, millions of us are walking around "in the dark" (in a mental mystery land) because we often (in some aspect of life) have no idea what's going around us. Everyone else appears to know, but the truth is, most of us are fellow walkers-in-the-dark. So if you think we are "talking down" to you (telling you stuff you already know), please understand we are talking up to many other. The bottom line is that at the risk of being rejected and/or making a smaller profit, we are going to speak as clearly and as completely as we can. If that offends you, please let us know. Your complaints are the raw material with which we fertilize our growing and expanding consciousnesses. Thank you.
